Origin of communist morality
Communist morality is the result of class consciousness on the behaviors and manners of the militant expressions of the universal class.
When Engels writes in Anti-Dühring (1878) that proletarian morality represents the future in the transformation of the present, what he is pointing out is that communist morality is grounded in that particular relationship of the class with the future. And that, by putting universal human needs first, needs that can only be universally satisfied after capitalism has been overcome, communist morality seeks to set out and represent already today abundance -and therefore the freedom still to be achieved- in the behavior, attitudes and ways of acting of the most conscious elements of the class.
Communist morality is not a state of mind or a set of rules or "commandments"; it is a perspective of the future that it makes present in the forms of political and interpersonal relations and behavior.
Meaning of communist morality
Rebelling against the system of exploitation that universally articulates society can only give rise to a generalized opposition to all social inequality and power of domination. That is why the moral attitude of the communist has nothing to do with the condescension of the smug leftist, nor with the resentment and obsessive violence of the troll.
Humanity, seen from the communist perspective, is the result of a gigantic collective work, spurred on and accelerated in its march by conflict and class struggle, which has accumulated knowledge and capabilities so extensive and powerful that they make possible -today- a society of full abundance and freedom for each and every one: communism.
That potential, as much as its negation by capitalism in decadence, is present in and shapes every manifestation of our world and every expression of its contradictions. From it we draw strength and optimism. Not from necessity or from hatred, not from a thirst for retribution or from charity, but from the capacity to discover in the present the immense potential for emancipation of our class and what it means: the self-liberation of our species.
Communist morality, the intimate link between the way of doing, speaking and fighting and the permanent perspective of the abolition of scarcity, the commodity and wage labor, is not an ornament, nor a mystical or moralizing drift; it is a material fact with material consequences, without whose conscious strengthening idealist fetishes, reactionary utopias of social automatons and dashboards, if not apocalyptic dreams that relieve communists of historical responsibility, will return again and again, disarming one by one the best efforts of our class.
